Olivia's Senior Pictures

A few weeks back, I made the short trip to Dunvilla to take Olivia's senior pictures. Her family has an old family farm that they are turning into a vineyard. It provided the perfect backdrop for her pictures.

About two weeks ago, I had the privilege of shooting this beautiful wedding in Alexandria, MN. So what makes this wedding so beautiful? Everything! The bride was lovely, the dress the perfect amount of detail and flow, the flower girl a doll and the reception venue...PERFECT! If I could shoot every wedding reception at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood, MN, I would be a happy photographer. It's a simple space, but with a great view of the lake, which makes it's simplicity fitting. Add just the right details, and you have an elegant place to enjoy your night.

Last Friday, I met up with Leah and her mom at their cabin on Lida to take her senior pictures. She had some great outfits and her hair and makeup was perfect after a morning at Envy Salon in Pelican Rapids. We had a great time exploring the area around their cabin, even it the wind was a little strong at times!

Rachel & Aaron are married!

I had the privilege of photographing Rachel and Aaron's wedding in Paynesville, MN last weekend. She was stunning in a beautifully detailed gown and lovely accessories. I really loved the car they left the church in; it made for some great pictures. Congrats to you two!

Lovely Liz

I had a blast yesterday with Liz and her mom while taking her senior pictures. The sky was threatening rain again, but we lucked out and it held off. Plus, because of the clouds, we where able to hit some spots I normally can't visit due to the hot sun. She had great selection of clothes and accessories that really accented her bright eyes.

Senior Season is here!

Last week in addition to my wedding editing and album design, I got to spend a little time with Trudy, a 2012 senior. They have a great place with some nice outdoor settings at their home, so we spent some time out there. Hope you enjoy these. I sure had a good time taking them and editing them. It's summer again, which means I'm happily filling my weekends with weddings. This one is from June 11th in Fergus Falls, MN. Angie and Cameron got married First Lutheran Church on one of our rare sunny, warm days. I don't really know what to say about their wedding, because I love all of it from the flowers (she added feathers!) to the dress and jewelry (she wore her grandma's pearls) to the bridesmaid dresses and the guys shoes. As always, I wish we would have had a little more time for pictures because the church had great architectural detail that I would have loved to take advantage of, but there was a little delay when the flowers were delivered to the wrong church! Everything worked out in the end, as you can see from these wonderful pics.

Karla and Mitch are married! A little bit of rain, a little bit of wind, and a lot of love. I had a great time with Karla, Mitch and their whole wedding party during this Fargo wedding. I really love the bubble fairies; what a great way to get the younger family members involved!

The car wouldn't start, so the groomsmen gave it a little push start!

I hope it's finally safe to say that spring is here! Most of the snow is gone and a few of my plants are starting to show signs of life. But my favorite part of spring is getting outside again for sessions! That's just what I did this weekend with Jesica and Matthew. Like most photographers, this time of year is dedicated to tying up loose ends from last year and prepping for the upcoming graduation and wedding season, so I was excited for the change of pace this weekend when I got to spend some time in my studio. White Winter

So, a few days ago I posted on Facebook that it was going to be a wonderful day to take outdoor pictures...I was wrong! The temp was great, but the wind was COLD. Luckily, I had a brave senior who really wanted to take some snow pictures. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them and can't thank her enough for being such a good sport. So remember families and seniors, winter outdoor pictures are an option!

Welcome to 2011!

This is going to be an exciting year at J Kuhn Photography. Our dates are booking up fast for weddings and we're already having high school seniors talk to us about their session! There are going to be a few changes we are excited about, also. Mainly, more location work. After reviewing the last 3 years, both by what customers have told us & showed us (with their orders) and by exploring what I as the photographer really get excited about, we have decided to get out of the studio. If you have question or concerns about location photography, just let us know and we can discuss the positives and negatives. Or, if you would rather hear it from one of our past clients, let us know and we'll find someone you can talk honestly with.

Enough of what's to come! We have been busy getting ready for some upcoming wedding shows and just can't help but share some great shots from last year. Don't worry, there will be more to come!

Spent some time with my 3 favorite boys at the PR fire hall earlier this week. While our smallest firefighter was to completely on board with our photo shoot, we still got a lot of fabulous pictures. Here are a few of my favs.

Beautiful Family

Better late than never

I've mostly been shooting families and kids lately, but Mason just came to see me this week for some last minute senior pictures. He put it off because, like most high school guys, he doesn't like having his pictures taken. You would never guess from these pictures, however. They turned out great and I had a blast meeting him, his mom and their two friendly dogs. Another bonus with waiting until fall, the light! Check out the golden sun on the cattails!

Engaged!

Jenny and Ian made this really hard for me. I could honestly pick any one of their pictures as my favorite to share here on my blog. These two are fabulous to work with; they are relaxed and easy to joke around with. Amazing Autumn

I cannot even begin to explain how much fun I had with my shoots this weekend. The weather was absolutely perfect, crisp, clean air that you can only have in fall; the sky a brilliant blue and the leave gold and rust. All that, plus the chance to shoot back in my hometown area. Here is a sample of my fun (yet busy) weekend.

Ben

This was my second year taking Ben's pictures, so he knew the drill. When I pulled up to their house, he and his sister where waiting for me at the door, excited for my arrival. I was feeling good, last year when I showed up he hadn't napped and didn't want anything to do with me. His excitement quickly wore off and announced we where done taking picture. With a little persuasion from his mom, we captured these great pictures.

Liam & Lincoln

These two bundles of energy kept me on my toes. I can certainly see how they would tire their mom out! We did kind of a "day at the park" session for these guys. We started with a leaf pile, climbed some rocks, checked out a tree and finished up on the swings and slide.

Steph & Josh are getting married!

Sunday afternoon, much to Josh's displeasure (I guess Sunday is for football), we met up to take some engagement pictures. I wanted to take these two downtown St. Cloud to take advantage of some of the great buildings and, umm, questionable alley that photographs so amazing it's worth having to watching your step. After our downtown adventure, we headed to my second favorite place, Munsinger Gardens. I am so excited for my road trip to South Dakota next summer when these two get married. I know it will be a fun wedding! P.S. Josh was a good sport about the pictures.

Two Beautiful Girls

With the weather warming up a little, I had the chance to take advantage of the colorful wildflowers and leaves to photograph these two girls.

Sophie was so fun to photograph. She has such captivating eyes, they show up so great in pictures. I just loved her soft smile, too!

It's not to often I actually take pictures of my little girl, but when I saw these flowers in the field, I just had to drag her out there. She's always excited to take pictures, until we start, then she quickly tells me we are done. So, here she is, the girl who has my heart and my sanity.

Changes

Fall is the season for change. The leaves are beautiful right now, our busy but carefree days at the lake are replaced with football games and homecoming, and senior picture season is turning to family photo season. However, I am terribly behind on sharing my summer work, so I'm still going to be posting some senior work here and there. Gorgeous Ashley

Where do I start with Ashley? I think her eyes say it all. They are eyes photographers LOVE. Liquid green, and huge! She has a lovely smile, but looks so innocent with a serious face. You can't go wrong! Plus, she came with a few good ideas, some great accessories that where fun to incorporate into the photos, and an open and willing attitude. I was starting to think we would NEVER get to take her outdoor pictures after rescheduling numerous times due to weather, but we did and it was worth the wait. Enjoy!

Catching Up

When I found out I was going to be shooting one of my favorite families, I knew instantly I wanted to try out an idea I had for some fun kids pics---balloons. It was a huge success. I honestly could have picked any of them images from this session for my favs to share, but here are the lucky ones that made the cut.

It ended bad, after I promised them the balloons and the wind took them away. So tragic!

Wonderful Wedding

There were so many factors that went into making this wedding amazing. The bride, groom and wedding party had a great energy; it was so easy to make their personalities come through in the photos. The bride has excellent taste, so the dress, flowers, venue... were all picture perfect. Oh, and the tornado warning/hail held off until we where done with our outdoor pictures. Always helpful. Seniors

I have been having so much fun lately shooting seniors. Here are two from last week.

Taylor was a great subject! She was up for anything I threw her way and had some good ideas herself. I was also thrilled when she came with her yellow shirt because just a few days earlier I found some great yellow and purple "flowers" I knew would compliment her outfit perfectly. The sun was also right for my super graffiti I just found. These are just a few of her awesome pictures.

Anna came with a great variety of outfits and an willing attitude. I LOVE her dark hair and the profile picture in at the lake gorgeous! She also lucked out with the weather. It was one of the only days lately that hasn't had crazy, hot humidity.

Fun on the Farm

Last weekend, I got a chance to visit the Heitzman family at their home. It was so humid, it was raining off and on, but they were troopers. Their house has some great places to take pictures, so we got a great variety. I loved to watch to boys interact.

Seniors!

First off, I would like to apologize. I normally try to limit my blog posts to 5 or 6 of my favorite pictures from a session, but I honestly could not narrow these two senior girls down any more than I did here. Both came with great outfits that fit her personality, good ideas and great attitudes!

I have one word for Megan's pictures: GORGEOUS! Love the leather jacket and look how her eyes pop out in the outside pictures!

Kellie found a lot of great outdoor places for us to go to around her home town of Elizabeth. I love checking out new places to photograph and she though of some wonderful ones for us. She did make me work for these, however. I had to wade through water, climb up a steep, slippery hill (with water at the bottom waiting for me and my camera to fall in), and take a four wheeler to her deer stand...after putting on the tick spray to avoid wood ticks. Nice! I think you will agree it was worth it.

Every Tuesday during the summer in Pelican Rapids, we have minnow races in the park. This year, I was asked to offer pictures with our famous Pelican Pete a few Tuesdays. Cute Couples, Gorgeous Girls, and Big Buffalo

Busy weekend for me that started with an engagement shoot Saturday morning. We lucked out the the weather cleared out for a short time so we got outside for a few minutes.

Later that night, I headed out to Rengstorfs' buffalo ranch to take a look at their new baby buffalo. It's becoming a yearly tradition with my family that I'm looking forward to continuing. While we where there, I had a chance to take a few picture of the most beautiful little girl. I may be bias, but I think most will agree.

Me & My Boys

While on a bike ride a few weeks ago, I had my breath taken away by an amazing view being kissed by the golden evening sun, and it inspired me. I wanted to use it for a family session, so I asked a friend of mine to get her 3 young boys and husband dressed up. No problem! She agreed and I think it was a great success. Beautiful pictures of a beautiful family.

Two Beautiful Little Girls

Last week I got to hang out with 2 little girls. Neither of them was to excited to get her picture taken, but we still got a lot of really cute images.

A few months ago I did maternity pictures of little Kamryn's mom and now she finally got her first chance in front of the camera. She brought her big sis along for support.

Malia was a little shy, but with a little work, we got a few smiles out of her. I love her mom's idea for the salon chair!

Winter Wonderland Wedding

Anyone planning a winter wedding could not ask for a better day then last Saturday. Temps around 20 and picture perfect frost on the trees. Add to that wonderful planning by the bride and groom, and you get this beautiful wedding. The bride spent months searching for the perfect red boots to wear, so I made sure to do something special with those. Congratulations Sarah and Scott!

It was shaping up to be the perfect weekend for fall family photos...and then the snow started! SNOW! In the second week of October. So, we changed the plans a little and everything worked out fine.

October is another busy wedding month for me with two in the Pelican Rapids area and one in Las Vegas!! However, I'm also filling up my time with some family shoots. Here are some from 2 recent sessions I've had.

The S Family

With 1 and 3 year old boys, you never really know what will happen. But these two are naturals. Even moving into a new house the day before our shoot didn't slow these two down. They did a great job and I had a lot of fun with them.

Levi

Levi came to visit me for his 6 month pictures. I first meet him for his 3 month pics and he sure has grown. I love his eyes, they just sparkle! His giggle is the best, too!

Moose and Pumpkins

Last weekend I took a little trip to Fargo. We took a little detour along they way and were rewarded by getting to see one of the moose that has been living nearby us. He was just outside of Downer, having a snack. Luckily, I had my camera along because I was planning on taking pictures of my little girl with some pumpkins. She's adorable, I know.
